Can we please have a dedicated FOR SALE forum where people can post adverts for sales & wants?

I don't think I'm the only one here who would like to see this but also thinks the current for sale section on the www.bmwcarclubgb.co.uk website is rather useless?

And now people are having their For Sale posts edited by moderators so I know there are people out there listening... get it on guys!!

Cheers
Jon

Agreed,

Most other forums have for sale sections. I find it hard to belive that the one on this site which charges makes much of a contribution to the clubs coffers.

Much better to develop the site and a free for sale section and pull in more members.... more members might encourage more paying members of the club anyway.

Aside from that, BMW is a pretty huge brand when it comes to vehicles on the road.... I reckon good website/forum could expect a very large viewing membership and as a spin off you could then start to advertise on the site and get reasonable revenue to pay for site maintenance.

I have said it before but I think http://www.scoobynet.co.uk is a good example of a well run forum with a large membership base and advertising to cover costs

But do we want to be getting into having paid advertising on the forum to cover the cost of adminstering a for sale section????? I know it's not all about pop ups

What to do? Put it to a vote for the members?

Hu? There is no major need to administer a 'for sale' section... it's will just be another section in the forum where people can post there sales/wants??

FWIW, I agree. Let's get a For Sale forum sorted - it can only help the site/community grow and improve.

When I switch on my computer to the internet the homepage is what you see in front of you, I hardly ever look at the sales section.
Having a sales section in the forum groups is a very good idea if it is BMW related only (no washing machines hairdryers or skodas) since you can easely click on it if you want and not if you don't.
Though you might get the problem of traders advertising.

Current advertising on the for sale section of the web site covers all the costs of the web site and provides a surplus of around 400 to help pay for other club costs. In addition, banner advertising on the cars for sale section of the site raised an additional $2200. We cannot afford to provide free advertising on the forum at this stage.

Don't forget that the club is a non profit making organisation, and the difference between deficit and surplus is a fine line to follow. ALL money received is ploughed back into the club coffers. I don't even get paid for my phone calls and isp provision, not to mention the expensive software used to update the web site, or for the 20 to 30 hours a week that I spend working on the site.

I will however ask the club committee for their opinion on the subject.

I would also like to add a point. As a moderator (I cannot speak for the other moderators) a lot of my time is spent checking the board. If there was a for sale section then anybody (including non-members) could place advertisments (see tale of lucky member here). Adding a for sale board would increase my workload hugely. There is also little comeback in the event of a bogus seller taking your money. Once that occurs the club could be placed in a vulnerable position legally.

Thats a fair point and a good argument, I guess you don't think about the work that goes on behind the scenes.
Keep up the good work.

Unless I've been recieving favoured treatment, the for sale section on the club website is free for members, and the club at least knows who we are.
Its one very small reason to be a club member.
Best Wishes

You are correct that it is free to members to place an advert in both the club website and the mag for free.

Well as its free for members, and you can access it from the forum, and it means you can keep a modicom of control, and more importantly, the club arent legally responsible for something we havent got, maybe the present way is best ?
Best Wishes

Nigel
