alternator woes

   Hi ,
Yet more problems ,but this time not so large  ,think the regulator on the alternator is going....lights dim and brighten with revs...not gr8 charge thru to battery etc....question is...is this an easily accessible thing to fix or does the whole lot (alternator) need to come out...?
