Phil, yes I must admit I have perused that site before with trepidation! It always makes me cringe seeing such beautiful cars smashed. But this photo from a roadfly post takes the biscuit...can't remember the original post URL but I think the gist was kid & passenger took family car out for a joy ride, T-boned tree at 150kmh. Both walked, but one had a broken leg.

The structural integrity of the passenger cell and side impact protection offered from the E31 is equivalent to about 10 side airbags IMHO. Most modern cars would have simply snapped in two or the A pillars and side sills broken.

WOW... Just goes to show along with all the 8 prangs in wrecked exotics that we are driving a tank with the turret removed!!!

Looked at the original pics you posted again. If the missus was driving it would have been divorce.
