Hi,

Just for general information, when I got my secondhand 840, some of the interior lights would not come on. The reading lights and the footwell lights did not have any power to them.
All the fuses were intact, so when I left it into the dealer for an "after buying a used car privately" check, I asked them to fix them.
At first they could not find the fault as the present staff had never worked on an 840. Mind you I was charged for 3 hours labour for this, but eventually someone traced it to a relay.
The relay itself was functioning but part of it controlled the power to the footwell and reading lights and that half was dead.
So a new relay solved the problem.
Dont ask me which one, as I never asked, but I had come across this information somewhere in the forums!

As I started - For Information Only.

Mmmm, I would challenge their 3 hour charge. All these repair times are laid down in the BM manual. Occaisionally, a dealer can justify 'open time' but I do not think so in this case. If their Dealer Principal will not reimburse, write to BMW customer service. At least one of their technicians should have been on an e31 technical course, unless they have a high staff changeover. Also, they will have as part of their franchise, all the technical manuals etc on the e31, so i think it unreasonable that they are charging you for their 'learning curve'!

Thanks for the reply.
They must have tried everything before they looked at the manual.
I'll follow it up.
Thanks again,
Wolf

Hi Mac Tire

Good to see another Irish 8 Series owner on the forum. What part of the country are you in?

Hopefully I'll get to see you at one of the meets over the next few months.
