I feel a little stupid asking this as I'm usually well clued up on engine parts (having worked as a parts specialist for 10 years!) but on the M60 engine, any ideas where the air mass sensor is and what it looks like as I need to give it a clean and any ideas on how to and what to clean it with, also, is there anything to be careful of?

I have the 4.0 V8 M60 engine

Cheers

Mike

Have a look here.

Part #1 is the MAF sensor, which could well do with a clean. The one I was talking about on the e28 is the same as #9 in that diagram, the idle speed control valve, which may well need a good clean as well, it sounds to me like that may be getting jammed. Hope this helps.

I have used Wynnes Carb and Injector cleaner.  Purple Spray can, blasts the muck away out of the Idle control valve.  T'is about Ł4.40 a tin from Halfrauds.
