would anybody know of anywhere that i could get a reconditioned cylinder head for my 1990 318i S, and how much it would roughly cost?any help would be greatly appreciated

To be honest, i reckon you will find it easier to source a complete engine. It's rare to find a head on it's own... you need a M42 head, the later M44 heads from the E36 don't fit...

Have you tried Euro car parts or German Swedish & French, someone told me one of them does recon heads.

How many miles has the engine done?

IMHO the best bet and the cheapest would be to source one via eBay.

Or as Mark says via GSF or perhaps Eurocarparts.

If you bought a whole car from eBay you could salvage all the other goodies which you might need in the future.
