I'm after upgarding from an E36 to An E39, was looking at a 540 bit thought for the extra couple of grand why not make my last silly/fun car an M5 before buying something sensible for family. Can I please have peoples opinions on the car as I'm quite interested in getting one. MPG not an issue as my current 328 drinks like a fish... Want one with a fbmwsh & all the gadgets like sat nav/tv etc. Is tere anything other than the obvious to look out for when buying one of these. Any help advise much appreciated,

I love mine and it's been reliable, now at 100k.  Full history is essential, servicing prices OK, drinks Super and Oil like a Whale.  Insurance is group 20, tyres last 15-20k.  There's another thread on here about running costs somewhere.....    In terms of performance it's a genuine bargain and I adore it. 

Puzzled by your comment about last fun car before something sensible for the family?  I keep telling my wife that it's just a four door saloon and my kids love it.
