I'm afraid I've been bitten by the "bug" as well. I have bought a Sheane Formula Vee. http://homepage.eircom.net/~goconnor/motorsport/No66.jpg Scanned photograph of previous owner in action Technical 1600cc VW Beetle flat 4. Beetle gearbox with differential crown wheel rearranged to allow engine to be mid mounted. Front suspension straight off a Beetle with Spax shocks. Rear suspension Beetle swing arms with Spax coil overs. I drove it for the first time in a sprint at Tynagh Kart track last Sunday. Very Slowly I'm afraid. I had three spins! Big change coming from a front wheel drive competition car to a mid engined rear wheel drive. Do anything wrong and the mass of the engine behind you takes you into a spin. My time fro three laps of the circuit was slow compared to the quick Veeon the day, 3m 30s v 3m 12s. So lots of improvement to come hopefully. I will be concentrating on Hillclimbs and Sprints with the occasional race. Maybe 2 Mondello 1 Kirkistown and the Phoenix Park. Just to put things in context about entry fees versus track day costs. Even with the rise in track day prices it is nothing compared to a race entry fee. €195 for qualifying session and race probably a maximum of 20 laps. |

hey ger my uncle well sort of uncle - auntys boyfriend has one of those
things i believe the engine is still in a box in co.laois and the car
is in its own little trailer out in the wet and cold a serious bit of
kit (might persuade him to part with the engine)
anyway the bug was sitting for at least 3 years and last taxed in 1997 however last saturday after a new battery, ht leads, plugs and a set of points she started first time - delighted bad points are the pans both look like swiss cheese - relatively easy to fix plus the insurance is already becoming a problem - i cant get a reasonable quote since i'm under twenty five even though i have another car and won't be driving it apart from weekends for those in the know the car was on ebay about two weeks ago - i was the eventual high bidder and i went to see the car before i bought -of course. so all going well a nice flat four lump will be sourced from a very popular rice rocket, porsche wheels and brakes und a nice paint job and i might be able to give my mates 318is a run for its money - oh anyone want a 318is 94 on brit plates immaculate no leather but everything else send me a pm and i will contact my mate merry christmas to one and all! |
