 sorry to hear that mate!

It is stupid that you cannot remove the cat! most cars they unbolt! It's annoying as there is nothing wrong with the cat!

The other option is for someone like Longlife/ Powerflow to make up a centre system out of stainless steel and put the original cat back on. Supersprint make a centre section with cats but I dont know how much it is.

My exhaust has gone at all the joints, the metal seems thinner there!

The car seems to run rough when cold and misfires a bit to start of with first thing in the morning. dunno if it is the exhaust causin the problems??

Mine used to be rough in the cold and is still sluggish at first. I don't get misfire but do get a 'popping' (like the push of air into the car when you first open the window) from the exhaust at 2500rpm when slowly accelerating or just slowly coasting downwards-not a misfire but it wasn't there on the last pipe.

My running has improved since when I got the car and I've done only 3 things to it that might've helped:
1-cleaned the k&n panel filter
2-put the exhaust on
3-used a treatment called D-Tox

I'm gonna ring the guy I got my supersprint backbox from and get a quote for a supersprint with cat.

John,

Cheers for the info mate, makes me feel a bit better about mine running rough when cold. I havent had much luck with cars in the past. It brings back memories of a Rover 420GSI that had problems with sticking vavles that gave similar problems! but it isnt as bad I used to have to sit there and warm it up for 5 mins before pullling away!

Apparently the 3.0L is supposed to run a bit rougher than the 3.2 when on cold start. Just a character of the car I guess.

Mine is going in tomorrow, they are gonna stick another centre section that is in better nick with no holes.

Your other option is to try and get hold of a second hand one in good nick. I think the systems are the same as the 3.2. The part numbers are the same on the supersprint site.

Let us know the price for the supersprint section, be interesting to compare the price with  BMW. Mine blew the window fuse this evening! dunno what that was about! hopefully wont do it again. I hate electrics!

Just sent an email off m8-also going to call fabbmw dismantlers tomorrow for a price.

I do rate D-Tox-Total BMW said it was the only engine cleaner ecommended/approved by BMW and the results are noticeable.

If you missed the Gaydon do last weekend I've done a site with photos at BMWCC Gaydon
Guess which is mine LOL!!!

Nice one mate,

I missed it as my car is a bit sick at the mo, just dropped it in this morning so hopefully it will be sorted by this evening.

I went with my brother to donington instead as it was the RS national day, I have owned a few RS's in the past. still a bit of a passion for me even though they are fords! hehehe

What's this D-tox?? how do you use it and where do you get it from?? is it fuel additive or oil??

P.S. sorry duckula we have taken over your thread! seems to be the Avus blue M3 3.0l thread now! hehehehe

Be interested to see the price of that supersprint part??

Fuel additive from Comma. Total BMW reviewed a stuff called BGK440 and rated it but D-Tox is the only 1 I know of that BMW approve for use with their engines.

Halfords £14.95 and bung it in a full tank. Car definately runs smoother.

FabBMW re a CAT section said that evo ones don't fit and the 3L ones are hard to get hold of, just keep trying them. On the plus side they only want £250 for it as and when they get them in.

Strange why supersprint have the same part numbers for both the 3.0 & 3.2!!??

My car should be back tomorrow, they are putting a centre system & back section on from another car. Seems strange as they are taking off the Remus that was on there. I am not too bothered. It was a little bit on the loud side! Nearly as loud as my bike. I will ask em if they took it off an Evo?

So it will be sorted tomorrow, back to a quiet hole free standard system I hope. The first thing I will do is get it on the ramps and check it!

A good way of prolonging the exhaust is to wire brush it the spray it with some black VHT paint. Seems to protect and keep rust at bay
