   Bird's may have used the Hartge crank - probably custom made. Do a bit of research and let us know! The problem is that it becomes uneconomical to invesitage this route.

You would be better off selling and buying a 325is.

	lol 325, yers... as mentioned i do like the compact tho :( I gonna try the chip and flywheel thing first. superchips have one for �295, which seems a little expensive...? I can get a 316 flywheel from a breakers, but I'm gonna get it lightened to 8.5kg - see what happens! ty for ur help m8 :) Edited by bgti2

	If you really want to do this properly, sepak to Nigel at Bexley Motorworks 0208 304 9797. They had an e36 with an M42 that they modified with a new induction system and ecu, it worked very well. Also, if you want a chip get a custom one. Off the shelf chips are cheap alternatives to doing the job properly, and that is on the rolling road with a custom map for your car. Think about this, if you buy the off the shelf chip and then make other mods to the car how do you know the chip is making the most of those mods. Answer, you don't and it probably isn't. Custom chip is the way to go.

	thx lanceelotII, ur a bit late to this m8?! ;) good stuff, thx m8, willdo. also take ur point about custom chip. I am intending replacing the flywheel for a lighter one, so would do that first b4 chip...I have spoken to superchips who say that for �295 they will take my car for a day and fit one...seemed dear, but if it's a 'custom' one, then what you've said would explain it :) I had intended just doing that, but will follow up on ur info first, thx dude! here's the link for the supercharger, as sold above: http://www.downingatlanta.com/da_superchargers_info_new.htm can be fitted, by most people, in "5 hours", the blurb says, with up to 120,000 miles expected of the unit, and, apparently, more or less stock mpg?! the stock manifold is replaced, but other wise, no welding or that type of work...just bolts on to give you OVER 200bhp :) ...which is nice! 	I doubt for �295 they are going to do a custom chip. They may run the car up on their rollers to ensure you don't have detonation, but if they have a chip off the shelf I bet that's what you will get.

	I'm a bit late on this thread.. .. you could do worse than speak to Nigel Moseley.. I remember his 'compact' racer frightening the regular trackday boys several years ago. He did quite a lot of work to the engine. I'll dig out his number and post it later. Nick

	lancelot II is correct. The Superchips chip for this engine is generic but is quite good.
