   My BMW warranty runs out in about 2 weeks  

The problem is, BMW won't extend it any more because the car is now more than 10 years old. Is anyone else is this position, and what have you done about it?

	I had heard recently that BMW GB are now allowing you to (re-)warranty your car indefinitely. I see from your profile, you're in Germany - it'd be odd if the UK got a better deal than Germany! Dig deeper...

	If your car has had the warranty renewed without a break, then there is no upper limit for expiry (mileage or age, or at least that's what they've told me) unless they don't feel a 10yr old BMW's parts are up to the job! They could at least offer an alternative warranty that takes into account the cars age etc.

	Interesting...it does sound odd that they'd offer that in the UK and not in Germany. Thanks guys, I will dig a little deeper.

	My brother (the previous owner of my car) was told that as long as everything was kept upto date then the warranty would still be offered upto 165K. That figure had something to do with life expectancy for cats/exhaust system (as I can remember) Phil

	Phil, is that 165k miles or kilometers? Right now I'm on about 148k kilometers. I'm going to try and talk direct to the part of BMW that does EuroPlus, rather than rely on the dealer who may not be fully up to date on what the details are.

	Sniff that was miles and it was only applicable to 7's and 8's!!! This is something BMW have to be straight up about. There must be a company wide policy on this. Let us know how you get on. If I'm still here next week I'll call the UK Used Car warranty people and try and pin them down on the current policy. Phil

	All Just spoke with BMW (UK) Used Car Warranty people. There are NO mileage or age restrictions on my car if fully maintained by approved BMW service stations. The warranty price only changes across the board and is not related to a particular vehicle. (�549 for me last November). The replacement cost of my Exhaust alone would be equivalent to +- 4 years of warranty. Its bloody marvellous.

	Wow, that's great news Phil. I am currently talking with BMW Germany so that'll be good ammo if they decided not to be cooperative. Cheers mate. Good price too...was that for 12 months? What does it cover, parts and labour?

	Phil, I am talking to BMW UK about something like that but it's looking like a bit of a non-starter to be honest. It just gets too complicated. Why is the car not registered in the UK?, why does it have German plates?, you'll have to have it serviced at a UK dealer to keep the warranty up, etc etc. I'm still hoping that BMW Germany will come up with some alternative, otherwise I'll just have to sign up fo rthe KeepYourFingersCrossed Warranty package!

	Good luck Keith If you keep ahead with the maintenance and remembering that you've not had to pay for warranty (that's your corrective maintenance kitty) there's no reason why you should be out of pocket. I guess Cats and Exhaust are the main one off costs you could encounter.

	Yeah, good way to look at it, Phil. If I put aside say 1000 Euros a year as my maintenance kitty that's not too bad. That's only 20 Euros a week...less than I spend on beer! Bargain! Regular inspections and stuff are OK, it's the biggies I wanted to guard against. Luckily I have a new exhaust (Eisenmann Sport) so I'm not too worried about that.

	Any niggles that you think may be covered with warranty get in now. It doesn't matter if the work takes place after the warranty has expired its when a fault is registered that is important. I had this situation when I bought mine. An oil leak investigation was ongoing through the change of ownership and the used car warranty people were great about it all. It did not cost me or the previous owner a penny. Edited by PhilC

	Fortunately (unfortunately?!) the car is running great right now. I had a small issue with a relay on the wash/wipe at the beginning of August which was fixed under warranty. So anything that does go wrong has to go wrong in the next 7 days! Gulp!

	Well, last day of the warranty today! Let's hope the BMW Gods are feeling kind!
