As some of you know, Classic Cars approached Andrew for an article on the e23 and I was able to help out.

The photo shoot was in Peterborough, 160 miles from me. I checked the long-range weather forecast well beforehand and Monday 22nd May was chosen as it was set fair and dry (I dont like using the old girl in the wet). Well, it p****d down all day, plus high winds so much for powerful weather forecasting models! Lyndon, the photographer (ex F1), got absolutely soaked. Ironically, he was glad it was raining though I suspect not so much, as the article is to feature a MB and Jaguar as comparative cars. They had been photographed some time earlier on a wet dull day also and by trick photography, all 3 will appear together. The article is likely to appear in the July or August issues and I will confirm this as I have been promised a complimentary issue.

The old girl performed faultlessly. On the first leg of the journey, I reset the OBC for MPG and gradually saw, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 creep up, then I hit the M25! The M25 around Enfield has road work that I did not know about and neither did 000s of others, we were at a standstill or very slowly moving for about an hour. In the end, the 160 miles took me 4.5 hours. Once on the A1M, I reset the OBC and the MPG just kept creeping up. Incredibly it got to 33 and I thought that has got to be it, but no, 35.7 was the last before I reached the meeting point. I used the M11 to get back and the sky came down to meet the road, the rain was intense, almost like tornado cells. I reset the OBC again, and easily got to 34MPG. Checking the OBC range and the mileage done, at that rate, the old girl has a range of 650 miles to a tank (100lts). BTW, my speed was 60 65 on cruise control.

For the camera anoraks, he used a medium frame Mamiya with Fuji film. They prefer to use film because no pixels, so can enlarge as much as required + colour repro is better.

BTW, tanked her up and calculating miles (378) to fuel added she returned overall 29.25. Now some of that was urban, plus that bloody hour stuck on the M25, so I reckon the OBC figure quoted above is accurate.

For the anoraks,

was it a RB67ProSD or an RZ67ProIID or maybe a 645 ProTL or AFDII with Fuji Velvia 100F reversal film? Just asking for the anoraks out there of course

Bloody hell! I think it was a 645. The FUJI film has been discontinued because of Japanese environmental requirement as it has a high silver content.

BTW, Lyndon used digital at least some of the time on the F1 circuit and recently invested in a 5K Canon digi - I don't know the model number!!
