I reckon they're jealous cos we've got more wheels than them!

And we haven't got a thing for leather, (Well, not on the road anyway).

Maybe i'll get a bike when i feel like spreading the skin thats presently on my body down the tarmac, until then i'll stick with 2.5L of fun through the rear wheels!

I personally hate:

Old people in Metro's/Maestro's/Montego's.

Blue Saxo Drivers (The Saxo's Blue not the drivers.)

People who just generally don't change lanes and bow down to the blue and white circle. Especially the ones that turn up there noses at my 14 yr old car.

This sorry effort from the GSclubuk just goes to show that they are an Equal Opportunities Organisation, and do not discriminate due to intelligence, mental condition, or attitude!

There will always be people around like this, but don't let them get to you - that is what they are after.

Also - please note that the Gsclubuk has no connection with the BMW Club, and is not recognised by either BMW(GB) or BMW Club Europa.  It is an Internet-based group, with many 'members' who seem to feel a need to be seen rebelling against someting or other.

It is a pity that Gsclubuk is sponsored by several BMW Motorcycle dealers, who for all I know are acting in an unofficial role on behalf of BMW (GB).  Maybe I'm paranoid, but I am sure that if BMW(GB) did not approve of  Gsclubuk they would soon stop their dealers using the corporate logo etc on the Gsclubuk website.

If anyone from BMW(GB) reads this (very likely!) perhaps they would give us the definitive answer?

To sum up, those who wrote the offending messages are as unrepresentative of proper BMW motorcyclists as are the up-and-coming salesmen who receive a BMW 318i as a reward for their efforts, even though their driving skills and attitudes would usually be more appropriate in a rusty old Sierra!

Both types give normal people a bad name, but don't let them worry you.

Phil

Have you ever riden a late BMW bike ?

I've owned a number of great bike including a number of top grade sports bikes that would easily be a match and more for your GSXR. I've also ridden a number of late BMW bikes and would say that unless you are a top class road racer then you will not keep up with one on 90% of UK roads, riden by a normal rider.

I can tell you this as I have competed and won at the IOM TT, Club level Proddy racing in both UK and European championships, and teach at a number of national trackdays.

To be totally honnest you sound to me like the kind of guy that I meet week in, week out who thinks that he can ride fast, and that his bike is the best, but in reality has difficulty going around the local roundabout in the wet.

I'm sure that there are a number of BMW riders that would be more than happy to give you a few lessons in riding, that is assuming that you can keep up of course ??

far better at wot I wonder,  depreciating,  decomposing at the first sight of a damp road,  looking nice with your matching leathers, certainly not as a real world motorcycle.

I know blending in with the crowd, Because everybody’s got one,  Just like opinions and a**holes.

Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas

i'm not saying i'm a fast rider no just in my opinion the gsxr is an excellent bike and in fact a recent bike mag agrees it said it was the best bike ever built .period.  as for the bmw's i will say of latee that they are starting to pruduce more sportier machines but at a high premium.

"because everyody's got one"  this is also rubbish as the gsxr 750 is a pretty rare sight in the new model.

road racer so have you ever raced using a bmw ? i bet you did'nt win the isle of man tt on one ?  there is alot of people out there who do think that they are the best, i dont i know my limits and thats it there is many people better than me but if you put a top sport bike like the gsxr and a top new bmw sports bike on the track and ask a racer or a proffesional road tester i do think the gsxr would come out as more compatent. dont ytou agree?

As a BMW rider since 1981 I agree with Phil that his Suzuki GSXR 750 is better than a BMW motorcycle - at something!

A good road bike must  be pretty good at everything, while not necessarily being wonderful at any particular task - a good all-rounder.  One's view of it in relation to other motorcycles depends on what one requires.

In Phil's case it is obviously great straight-line performance, with a standard of handling which is adequate for his level of ability, and a particular type of appearance which he likes, and which is accepted by his peer group.

There is however, more to motorcycling than recreational posing and the application of massive performance which is not appropriate to public roads carrying other traffic.

The  use of excessive performance is one of the most common causes of motorcycle accidents, which are on the way up again, thanks to the immature attitudes of many riders.  This is not helped by the bleating of the BMF - the largest motorcycle pressure group in the UK - that most car/motorcycle accidents are caused by the car driver.  No statistics exist to support this claim, but it helps to unite riders against a common enemy - car drivers - and support the BMF.

The real threat to motorcycling is from within their own ranks, and from the lower orders of the motorcycle press, who promote the concept that motorcycling is all about competition and agression.

I imagine that Phil would sneer at the old R100RS, K100RS, and R45, for example, but this stable of machines gave wonderful service, carrying me to work, travelling all over the country, long Europen tours, and being ridden off the beaten track in places such as Iceland and Madiera.

I doubt if Phil's wonderful Suzuki be as versatile, while returning between 50 and 60 mpg, carrying luggage, and sometimes a passenger (in comfort!) also.

Having seen riders of modern sports bikes arrive at campsites after quite short rides, and almost having to be lifted off their bikes, I know what I want from my motorcycle, and that it will provide it.

Perhaps this marks me down as an old man (which I suppose I am!) but I bet I have had more fun from my unpretentious BMWs than Phil will ever receive from his short-lived whizzbang!

I feel sorry for those such as Phil, who will never realise that they have bought transport, rather than a badge, and others of his generation who feel it necessary to denigrate BMWs on principle.  Perhaps the problem is that they see BMWs as being an 'Establishment' motorcycle, and must therefore rebel against it.  Also of course, it represents something they do not understand - a real motorcycle!

Suzukis and the like are great for the odd Sunday ride or track day, but that's all - apart from such limited use they have poor performance in the real world.  As machines to keep for ever - forget them!  My RS, for example, is still in beautiful condition, whereas oriental bikes just rot away.  A Jap bike may be great for Christmas, but a BMW is for life!

Sorry Phil, but that's life.

On the subject of the gsclubuk again - it seems that this club was based on a website which was owned by someone.  This person decided to go on a round the world tour, and closed the website.  All that is now left is the message board, which was run by someone else.  The result is that this 'club' has virtually ceased to exist, and it seems its members are now seeking to exist by uniting aginst an external enemy - in this case BMW car drivers!

As I remarked earlier - don't let them get to you!

Um... Not being rude but isn't this a "Car Club" List?

I can see this turning into a war, they'll be people sharpening BMW badges and using them as ninja throwing stars then the Japs will reply by blinding us with there matching bike/leather combos. After a few years all that'll be left is cockroaches and a couple of resistant ferrets (They're tougher than they look). It'll be like a cross between Terminator and Street Hawk.

Um.... Sorry what was I talking about?

I agree completely with Adam Garside - let's not become bogged down in a 'My dad's better than yours' type of discussion, which would be pointless and self-destructive.

One only has to look at some other discussion forums to see what can happen when that takes place.

Everyone is entitled to hold a different view - if there's one thing I can't stand it's intolerance!

and now i think it's time to end this battle and just agree to disagree that everyone has different choice of the ideal bike you like your beemers i dont.

straight line performer i think that is a bit harsh
