I am considering placing adverts on the forum pages (somewhere - either banners on top or towers along the side). This has met with approval from higher authorities!

The banner advert system will be done using Google's AdSense which (unlike most banner advert systems) will use targeted adverts based upon the page it is contained in. From this I would imagine that the adverts will be BMW related or worst case scenario motor related.

There will be no pop-up adverts and any revenue generated from them will obviously benefit our club. I will do it for a trial period (duration undecided as yet).

What are your thoughts on it?

Fair enough. Do we have control over the size of the ads?

Could it perhaps pave the way for free small ads if the revenue generated is significant enough?

I don't think I would like them in the forum pages.

Other pages are fine (e.g. index pages). I guess they are a necessary evil.

Please, PLEASE, never consider doing pop-ups!
Anyway there is software to stop them getting thru!

Where will the revenue generated from the adverts go please?
Cats know your every thought.

But don't care.

I have not / will never build a site which includes pop up adverts!. More info & screen shots can be seen @ the following links
https://www.google.com/adsense/faq
www.google.com/adsense/images/infoplease_lg.gif
There will only be 1 ad unit per page as follows:
Skyscraper: Requires a 120x600 space & Shows up to 4 ads per page
Banner: Requires a 468x60 space & Shows up to 2 ads on a given page
Leaderboard: Requires a 728x90 space & Shows up to 4 ads per page
Inline Rectangle: Requires a 300x250 space & Shows up to 4 ads per page.
Sample advert: www.inluminent.com/weblog/archives/2003/07/20/keep_clicking/ (ours won't be as wide)

Any money generated (from click throughs [people clicking on the links]) will go directly to the club.

I don't know if it will work.
I don't know how much it will / may make for the club
I don't know whether it will ruin the look of the forum.
But I am giving advanced warning of the trial and want / value your feedback (as long as it is positive

I personally never have had a need to click on adverts... so am somewhat sceptical of their money earning potential in that regard. If companies pay in advance to have their advert up then its a different matter.
