They have a technical section for brake upgrades

Upgrading to 850 csi fronts with e34 m5/540 rears is the dogs dangleys as far as upgrades go but not cheap.  I have redstuff pads all round and the front discs on my M635 have warped yet again.  They appear to be very maginal.  When working the standard M635 set up is actually pretty good.

Hi, the previous owner of my 1985 M635 upgraded JUST the front discs to the E34 540 discs - he said he'd sometimes suffered warped discs and read somewhere that the 540 discs suffered far less warping and will just bolt on to the M635 hubs.

what about the rest of the brakes, i.e pads and calipers? do they remain unchanged despite a new type of disc?

sorry to invade the thread and be the simplton
asking dosey questions but is that a real common
problem with m6 set up? the reason i ask is that my
six has m6 discs and calipers but the discs are
warped - i was going to get some black dimond
discs and pads but now im thinking it might be worth
spending extra to change setup rather than fork out
all the time for new discs.

The problem is the thickness of the discs.

M6's have different calipers & discs to normal 635's (which also suffer from warping). It depends on how hard you drive but track days or a fast descent of the Stelvio Pass will wipe them out.

The 850 discs/calipers are the biggest & thickest that will bolt straight on. Upgrading the rears helps keep the braking balance but you'll need a 750 master cylinder with new brake pipes to avoid an over long pedal travel.

Munich Legends did have a mod that used a thicker disc which was machined down in diameter to fit. Friend of mine used them without problems on track days so they may be worth researching.

The M635 has 300mm x 30mm discs and the 540 has 302mm x 28mm discs so they bolt straight on and use the M635 calipers and pads. The difference is in the thickness of the  individual rotors and the vented vains - they must be just a better design in that way.

I'm not saying it's the best upgrade; obviously there are upgrades to the whole system including the master cylinder that can make your 635 or M635 race-car sharp; but I'm quite a progressive driver and fairly heavy on the brakes and so far have had no problems with this set up.

It's also a relatively easy and cheap setup if you're not flush enough enough for a full blown upgrade.

try hi-spec motorsport. they are in the "links" section of my site www.335itc.co.uk. i have their 360mm kit, 6 pot calipers on my 335i.

They are pretty much the cheapest around, and a caliper overhaul kit is comparible to normal bmw. replacement discs are cheap as well. they do alot of options.

with these dimensions and assuming these are 1 piece rotors they must weigh a massive amount. Granted the oe parts probably weigh near to that but does this effect the car at all, with such large unsprung weight?
