Just tried the Club Insurance scheme with Richardson Hosken for this years renewal - they (along with Churchill, eSure, Prudential and Royal Sun Alliance) will not insure me while I'm under 30 in my 328i. Pretty poor

Just as well Tesco are looking competitive again AND I've got £100+ of Club Card vouchers I can put towards their policy

Still got a good few companies to try mind you...

Its a pity that being in the club here in Eire doesnt carry any weight.

Oh well we live in hope.

I ended up having to get tpft garage ins at a cost of €2300.

Eamo, I don't think it is so much about the club carrying little weight as much as the insurance cartel not giving a flying f**k!

Cheers Nigel. Plumped for Bell Direct in the end. £484 fully comp, mods declared, protected NCB, hire car and legal. Suspect that's as good as I'll get...

Webdunk,

I found the cheapest to be Directline, for my 728. This being over 30 business is just a con, as I'm 32 and the insurance didn't come down when I passed 30. NCB is what counts and don't forget to change the value of your car every year when the insurance is up for renewal as this brings it down as well. It's surprising how many people still insure there car for it's original value 5 years down the line. And if the car is a write off you only get market value anyway.

I believe insurance and ages are structured round these groups:
17
18-19
20
21-24
25+
It is not specifically NCB, after all, I am nearly 22 and in March next year I will have 5 yrs NCB (Touches wood). 5 years is 65%, I.E. Full no claims. The amount of time you have had a license helps, as does having a clean one! Also, POST CODE counts! One broken explained my quote for a '89 E30 M3 for me. It came in @ £1,600 TPFT. 14% of that was my post code!!!!!!! The actual quote was around £2,300, but I have 4 years (60%) NCB, so that is taken off leaving £1,600.
MSN had quite an interesting link to do with insurance, it listed cars and their minimum groups. For BMW it had:
3 Series grp 15-20,
5 Series grp 14-9
and all "M-Series" grp 20!

I hope this is as interesting to you as it is exoensive to me!

therealmccoy,

As you may have noticed from my previous post I have passed all those age groups and I can tell you nothing on my insurance changed as a result. Don't wnat anyone to get there hopes up whilst waiting for there next landmark birthday, hoping there premiums will come down as a result.

I do agree with your other points though - NCB, Length of time of D/L ownership and Post Code.

I've passed all those milestones & I'm on the second lap!

Found mine came down quite a bit at 35 but that was a decade ago!

It's just come down again so 45 looks like another age point. I also got 10% off when I got married.

So there is a benefit to being an old git.

insurance copanies look at many variables to decide quote levels. They also use your job, where the car is kept over night ( garage, street, drive) How many miles you do, mods, married/single ( if married you are meant to be more carefull with the driving!! f**k knows how they got that one!) vehicle experience, plus all the others in the above replys.    so basically you need to be a 70year old vicar with a small economical car married and only travel to the shop at the end of the road, no accidents live in the middle of nowhere with fort knox as a garage and does track days on a weekend in someone elses car!   ONLY THEN DO YOU GET CHEAP INSURANCE!!!
