These days there all pretty good in fairness to pass trading standards.

If im not racing and it doesnt rain theres no way im forking out for big rubber i cant see the point in it, As long as there black and hold Air they will do me, Its no Bugatti Veyron Lol.

I have yet to see big wheels wear tyres out evenly anyway so call me a tight a*se but there will be nankangs on my rims.

Silly petrol head me, picked one up as a "run around". lol, it just said "buy me", so i did!.

Upgrades wise, the missus has told me i have two already, and she won't let me have another..........

so i have to get the 335i done before i can do big changes to the 6.

I had knangkang thingines ages ago. I popped 4! literally, the sidewall just went pop on my 318 e30 back in my "blue neon days".

after thati went to pirelli, was happy, until i tried eagle f1 gsd3. all i said was "oh my god".

they absolutly wipe the floor with every other tyre i have tried since. I had the pirellis on the front (silly idea) and f1's on the back. in my 325i convertible. no matter what i tried it went straight on, that much of a difference.

with the 6, its more about cruising and enjoying it, so cheapo tyres will do for me, but eventually i plan on eagle f1's again.

The f1's also allowed me to run 18's on my e30 with no tramlining as opposed to train runner with the pirelli's.

I did have a pirelli tyre that handled better than the f1's, but the set literally died in 3000 miles, think they were 3000'sor something. handling was out of this world.

Yep, when i had the 225's i had to watch the tyre coice. nasty pirelli's weren't and issue, as they had rounded edges. when i went to heavy load walls f1 gsd3's the walls are square, and a touch wider (rim portector is better). i found direct bolting on they touched the strut. a 5mm shim saw the wheel clearing the strut by 3mm. this is a constant so no issue.

i considered 20's, but my springs are rusty as hell, so i want to do the shocks and springs (shocks shot as well). cheapest i found for the lot was spax psx kit at £382. but that lowers her 35mm. i don't fancy all the arch mod's for this. i'll go for 18's. imon a real budget as the trx tyres on their last legs. cheap wheels i can get the mv2, or the new m5 18's with nasty tyres for around £500.

I now the car deserves deep dish, stainless rin cross spokes, but the cost goes to around 800 all in, still with nasty tyres. its a second project, and has to suffer a little face.... unless anyone here knows different??? (hoping).....

Cheers for coments lads,

@Knit and crochet- i did think of removing the side mould for the clean Euro look but id imagine it will leave holes or a nasty step behind it or pull off paint, i dont believe my car has had paint before so im reluctant to do that. Also keeps it somewhat original.

@-Check it out , Im glad your confident on the 19s fitting, i saw a pic of an E24 in the USA wearing 19s but it wasnt lowered and the car just looked really high on 17s- Didnt get the effect in at all.

I put a deposit on 19s through an Australia wide wheelstore, Im sure they will sell me 20s off the same deposit if they fit.

I will try the 20s and see what its like- im not prepared to do anything more than Arc rolling as im over all that in my nova GSI/Golf gti days Back at home!

If 20s fit and dont look to silly il go for them, there becoming quite reasonable here at around $2500 a set. Even tyres are coming down a lot. 19s are the new 17s these days!

Im not to bothered on driveability i hardly use it and when i do its just to the beech and round the city or motorway,

Ps i have pics on my phone of an E34 5 series with 22s the other day, Thats going a little far, think they were modding front turrets so the rims could turn. The quest to look different eh

I've was looking up wheels whilst in drean land, 20's fit no issue, so long as you get the right offset. think it 15 front, and 20 rear. with that you can run 235/35/20 and 255/30/255's

if you place 18's up to the standard wheel (225/30/18's) the diameter is actually smaller that standard. 19's no issue i would think.

I had 225/35/19's running on my 325i e30 convertible no issue. jsut have to use the odd shim to get it just right.

i like the clean no fuss look to your car and its a nice
colour too!

ive seen a few sixes on 18s some look quite cool
but i think there is a lot riding on the design of the
wheel. quite alot of modern wheels dont seem to
suit it but at the end of the day its down to personal
taste - so i say go for it. there only wheels and you
can allways sell em if you dont like em!

have you thought about getting rid of the trim along
the doors/quarters and wings? maybe a dechroming
might help to tie in with a modern look?

Hows Andy,

Thanks for your advice, I know were your coming from certainly,

well the car wears 17s as is on 40 profile with no probs, and im carful anyway as im used to minding every crevice in the road over the years. The 19s will be 35 profile- with the correct offset i cant see it exerting much more pressure on the suspension. Roads are very good here and  I dont drive it hard anyway.Im out of excuses!

I put a deposit on a set this evening so its done now i have been warned and ye can all say i told u so but im doing it anyway!

I dont mind splashing out on it as i hardly ever see it and as lovely as the 17" BBS rs  are i just wanted something refreshingly different, its hard to explain.

Il post some pics when their on the car which wont be for another 6 weeks.

Cheers all

Rory

I think 19"s might be a size too far.

15" are considered best for ride, 17" for looks & 16" the best compromise between the two. Remember, the Six was originally designed to have 14" wheels!

17"s have a pretty low profile, some have fitted 18"s which have a very low profile. 19" will have such a low profile the car will ride & skip like a rollerskate. Any pothole will spell the end for your wheels.

Also, tyre cost goes up steeply over 17".

Hows all took these pics last time i had a week off from the mines,

Apologies that their at dusk i was in a hurry to catch a flight,

Car has been lowered, clear lenses fitted front and sides (rears will be going on in 3 weeks) . side pinstripe decal removed.Drivers door hinge pin replaced due to slight wear causing door to sag slighlty.

Very happy with the car, Problems so far was that it blew out a power steering hose and emptied the contents into the engine bay.. So this greets me on my next holiday when il have to get one made up. Also A rubber hose is leaking ATf fluid right up the front of the car.

Next mod is carlsson 19"rims-Hoping they will fit- Does anyone run 19s here?

Budgeting for Engine conversion for early next Year.

The starter sometimes just 'ticks so i have to try the crank position several times before it kicks.
