You can also get 3M adhesive transparent protectors which can be stuck to the glass.

Useful if you want to protect those expensive ellipsoids!

Not trying to be too negative here, but I recently had a fruitless attempt to fix a cracked headlight for my 1989 highline.  The inners/fullbeam are easy to locate GSF, Ebay etc but the outers/driving lights came up negative.

I had tried the dealer (and I used RealOEM as a reference) and they said they no longer made them, GSF said they did and supplied what looked right but the mounting hole spacing was out (I think an E30 unit was supplied).  As I had sourced from old stock one outer I was determined to replace them all to get new glass across the front I ended up chopping the good lens from the E30 and bonding it on to the old frame after removing the cracked glass (not the easiest job!).

Anyway, let me know how you get on - I might be able to help with RealOEM as I (think) I exhasted every avenue and the info I used should still be around somewhere - Good Luck.

Thanks for your replies gents, much appreciated.

Driver's side headlights are fine, but passenger side has a crack around the edge. All works OK at the moment really it's bit awkward to adjust, but I would like to get it replaced and stick to the 'original' parts as much as possible.

Saw your 6 in total bmw this month Andy, v. nice, thanks for the link to the parts website, i think that will come in extremely useful. I'll have to check the precise production date later on.

They're not. If you want to use the older headlights, you'd have to re-wire to use 3-pin connectors rather than the "Highline" 2-pin.

Hi Chris,

The later Highlines have plastic bowls as opposed to earlier metal ones. As such I'm not sure they're interchangeable.

Have a look on RealOEM & check the part numbers to make sure. I have a spare set hiding in my garage but I'm not sure whether they're Highline or not. I'll check asap.

Are yours broken or corroded?

Evening all, my name is Chris and I'm new to the forum. I've picked up some really good tips from observing the forum and was wondering if anyone has any leads on where i may find some Hella headlamps for a 1989 Highline? I need a set for the passenger side in particular. Does anyone know if the headlamps from a 1983 635 would fit? Doubt it myself but i've heard of one that is being broken up and was thinking of getting in contact re. the headlamps.

Cheers
