Hi all, I am brand new to this forum.

I've had two 635's, a 3.8 M5(surely the best car ever-I loved it!), and err...ahhem an m535i(complete with bodykit) and a 525e. I'm also into muscle cars and own a '67 Dodge Coronet 440ci (7.3). I think that for something a bit different with enough power/good fuel economy and cheap to run/maintain a nice 635 can't be beaten.

Ella and I took the last six to the South of France last summer and it came into its own. I'm now tidying up my latest '85 635 manual-it came with good s/h wings so there's that to do as well as a good tidy up, and fit some nice wheels as well as the obligatory tax and M.O.T .

It's a pleasure to be chatting with y'all!

I just wondered if the speedometer would be out if I were to run 255's(40's) on the rear with 235's(45's) front.

Cheers

DM

Hi!..

Yeah I started by selling my original 635 on completing the France trip. The plan was to try and buy another car to do the trip this year. I went from the six to a Supra to the M5 and ended up with the Dodge (14mpg at VERY best)

Whilst the yank is obviously another project all together, all my leapfrogging from one car to another has sort of lead me back to an E24. I'd love to post pics....how does one do this??

I think as far as wheels go, as long as the rolling circumfrence is the same it won't alter anything (if thats what you mean?)

Nice collection btw, any pics?

Yeah, I got pics of all .... how do I post them?

So I guess what I should have asked is - what tyre size should I put on style 5's in order to maintain speedo accuracy.

Cheers

The tyre sixes you mentioned will be very close to the original wheels external tyre size so will be fine. I used to run my 635 with 235/45/17 tyres, and it was no difference to the metrics and i now run the car with 225/50/16's and it's fine. If anything with the 16's the speedo over reads slightly, but it is close enough. A 255/40/17 will have the same aspect ratio as the 235/45/17. You will just have to check the offset as it's a big tyre size for the rear arches. If the offset of the wheel is correct it will fit fine. Non highline cars don't have the plastic arch extensions, so are a little tighter, but i have seen a highline running 265/35/18" wheels without rubbing issues, but that is as big as you can go, but i would stick with a narrower wheel as the handling will be better.

To post pictures you have two options.

1. If they are small enough in size e.g. under 250KB then you can upload them using the image upload button second in from right at the top of the Post reply box.

2. If the image is bigger than this, then you need to upload them to an image hosting site and then refere to them using the third button from the right on the second row of things at the top of the post reply box

Hope this helps

James

the M5 was a Munich Legends car and in hindsight (I sold it to get the yank) I wish I'd kept it - I could achieve 28 - 32 mpg with cruise on the motorway!! utterly brilliant. Dodge will be worth quite a bit when done so I can always get another...

Hi dogman!

I'm sure i saw that six up for sale about 4-5 months ago when I was looking for my six! Never got round to seeing it but was on my shortlist - looked in great condition and very well cared for despite 170-180k miles(?)

cheers

Yeah, it was superb....regular oil changes, re-spayed by BMW some 9 years ago, totally sweet engine even at 170k...40k of that was me.  Ella and I drove through France, Spain and a bit of Italy in it (and went around Monaco f1 course!!!!)

Still needed wings doing but super body other than that. I sold it to a lovely guy, a Doctor, nice bloke.

I didnt fully appreciate how nice it was 'til I picked up this latest one (pics to come)...but it's not all bad. It turns out it's eaten its cam (banjo blots loose) hence i'm on the look out for a good s/h head with cam....mind you it was only a cheap'un off eBay, manual mind..

Anyway, cheers mjf297!!!

P.S, Whats the story with yours?

Sounds like you have some great memories of that six, Dog man! I'm sure you'll get the new purchase knocked into shape in no time..

Bought my six about 4 months ago after a year trying to fight the urge which just wouldn't go away! Couldn't really afford it and had a brand new company car which was perfectly adequate, but it got to the stage where only a 635 would do!! I'm sure you can identify!!

Was convinced i wanted a chrome bumper model, and saw a fair few heaps and well-polished turds before deciding on the Highline. It was more expensive than the others I'd seen but decided to let my head partake in the decision-making process a tiny bit as it was by far the cleanest and well-cared for i had seen. Parted with 3k and haven't looked back. Costs so far: 180 new petrol tank, 230 new rear subframe bushes and MOT work, 450 on style 5 split rims of an e34 M5 and 2 new tyres Oh, and a few grand on petrol .

just realised i am droning on, sorry!!
