Boot struts E30

   Anyone have any idea how to fit new boot struts to a E30?
I fitted an Mtec 2 kit and the boot can't support itself with the new spoiler so BMW told me to buy new struts. They said it was so easy... eh? no its not!!
I've taken the boot lid off along with the arms but can't twist the struts into place. Anyone know any procedures or have any pictures etc. ?
