sounds like a great idea but the details are confusing me cuz I is dumb as a box of rocks!

If you click on one of the links in my signature, it will take you to one of the sites I am staffing, the photo gallery link is on the homepage, if you as a guest clicks on that link, it will take you there but will not reveal the contents. Only members are able to actually see the gallery contents, keeps the security a bit easier to look after, especially in stopping anyone taking the photos for their own use elsewhere, they are under our Terms of Service, property of the site and if any are reproduced or used elsewhere for any reason without the owner/member's permission, we, the site can pursue it.

If it on our same server then it uses up our bandwidth.
Its not a big issue but Im waiting until I meet the committee before I make any further moves

We aren't using seperate servers for the main section and gallery Killian, its all on the same one. I have set mine up that guests cannot see the entries on the gallery, which is all part of the software options available.

Rhys has seen how ours work, its dead easy to do and all you need is to buy the licence and download the software, which would be much better on the pocket than having to expand the main bandwidth all the time.

If you chose to have a seperate gallery, detailing could be a section within that gallery, along with regional and marque sections, Killian. It would keep the main site's bandwidth less, loading quicker etc. The gallery could go on a link along with the existing ones at the top of the page...cars for sale etc.

The sites I have to look after use this...

http://www.photopost.com/

It can be set up so that only members can view the photos, for security, and automatically resizes large photos too. Very very easy to set up and organise (I have done both galleries on the sites I admin on, and I ain't a pooter whizz by any stretch of the imagination). Really great way to free bandwidth off the 'written' sites and probably a cheaper option too.

The previous host was seriously underestimating the bandwidth used. We are using over 1GB per day (a lot!). I will just order more.
However, I have a meeting with the club committee on Sunday and will not decide anything or spend any more until then.

Kbannon ,

How much capacity do you require and what will be the cost for say a year?

The google adverts are the way that the forum raises revenue (for the club) - it will pay for itself in due course but don't be afraid to help!

I would think something like this is a good idea.
However, currently the site uses over 30GB of bandwidth (traffic to and from the site to all of you). I will have to purchase more bandwiths (10GB) at a cost of €200 (I have already spent €600 in the last month on this!). Adding a gallery, which as I said would be good, would also increase bandwidth heavily and I need to be ready for the hit!

I have not seen anything further on this baby so I take it that it's a no go?

I think that a deatiling section is a good idea .

My tip Harley wax for Red cars , I have tried Zymol, Swissol, Zaino, Meguiars but Harley gives a deeper shine.

If enough enthusiasm is generated then K will create a section. It's a balancing act between having LOADS of sections and splitting specialist subjects off so if more folk are keen on this, get posting on this thread.

I was hoping folk would agree.  There certainly seems to be a fair bit of enthusiasm for this type of thing.  How do we go about getting it setup?
