Athens - Anyone been?

   Hi guys... 

So....we're
planinng our summer hols. We have to fly to Athens then fly onwards to
Lemnos. We were thinking of spending 3/4 days in Athens but can't
decide. Heard mixed reports... some save it's a beautiful city and
others say it's polluted.... I suspect it's both!!

Can anyone recommend where to stay?

How far is the airport to the centre?

Any good days trips to go on, either in the city or to near by cities\islands etc...
