just read the well written "how to" by swordfish

http://www.bmw-board.co.uk/forum_posts.asp?TID=32818&PN= 1

as i can't post in that section i thought i'd post it here and let someone with the power add this tip to the "how to"

ive made angel eye headlights for a few folk (i was thee 1st in the world to make them for a Mitsubishi Galant ..... very proud of that, i am  only wish i patiented it!!)

any way this tip will help open your sealed lights .... pre heat your cooker/oven (not a microwave!!.. DooH!!) then place your headlight in it (gas or electric switched of before placeing them in) keep an eye on them, checking them every couple of mins by removing them and pulling the glass away from it's backing, it's easier and not so soar on your finger's than a hair dryer

Nice one Ian. I'd given up on the hair dryer idea and could see my angel eye rings gathering dust at the back of the cupboard until now. I just told the wife and she has visions of melted plastic in my oven! Haha, yeah right . I've cooked many gourmet meals in my oven, I'm sure I can handle a few lights! lol.

Cheers for the advice, I'll let you know how I get on.

Just had another thought on a safer way. How about sitting them in hot water? Obviously taking care not to get the back wet or to put cold lenses straight into hot water, but my guess is, this may work without the worry of getting the oven too hot? I may try both methods and write a report.

Cheers

Mike

The angel eyes look good on the Mitsubishi Ian! I'm still very unsure about trying to split the headlights apart and re-sealing them, am far more tempted to buy the full headlight set with the angel eyes fitted
