Thanks 635. Yea read that article. Was dooped into thinking they had driven the new M3. Have my puncture dilemma sorted so I'm back in the M3 tomorrow. (Once I don't have a flat battery that is!)

Hey best of luck with the car. Looks well, tecno voilet is a nice colour. is it your first m3? i 3 weeks ago also became the proud owner of 1998 m3 evo convertible in estoral blue, new engine with only 9000miles on it done by bmw, and only 60000 on the car. So like you, am happy as a pig in sh*t!!!  I started off with an e36 616 coupe, and worked my way to the m. You might say theres a little difference in the power output lol. happy motoring anyway man, cant wait til theres a meet so i can see all the other nice german machines!!!!!
I miss my m3.......

Cheers Vince. It's my first M3 all right. I've been a little bit unlucky with mine
due to a failed bearing in the diff, some b###ard breaking the side window to
steal my briefcase and denting the side of the roof, a burst rad, an
expensive puncture and today the alarm was acting up a bit. But it's all
worth it when you pull out on to the M4 and DESTROY a 350Z. I'd love a go
in your convertible M3 if we're ever at a meet. My last BMW was a 2.2 Z3
which was great fun. Miss the alfresco experience.

Just fitted a couple of my latest mods. An M-Tec 3 sport steering wheel
which is a mojor improvement. Can't recommend it highly enough. Looks
better, feels better and even though it's still quite big its a good bit
smaller than the original which was far too big for a sports car.

And my new bluetooth stereo. It's a Pioneer 55BT. Sounds great, looks
great and has the built in phone kit. Just have to fit the mic up near the
rear view mirror which will involve taking off some of the trim to hide the
wire. You can change the colour of the display and buttons to suit the car
so here it is in amber to match the car:

And in 'Pamela' spec:

What wheel was on it previously? That one looks massive. I'd much prefer the one I had on my M3; the 3 spoke with the tiny airbag in the middle. It never struck me as being too big...

If you think Alex's new wheel is big, thank your lucky stars you don't have one of these!  Its the one on my 325i.  On that note, was there any bother with connecting the airbag on the new wheel with the car wiring Alex?

@ Dergside. Yes your old wheel is far too big although I've seen M3's with
them. No trouble swapping the wheels. I disconnected the battery and
waited 30 minutes. Then unscrewed the airbag unit with a torx bit. Then
undid the connections. These are foolproof so you can't mix them up or
connect the wrong way. (I hope) Then a 16mm socket to undo the bolt in
the centre. The new one went straight on. (I made sure the front wheels
were as straight as possible and put the new wheel on straight). The
airbag has 2 connectors which clip in and then tighten up the screws on
the back again. I connected up the battery and waited another 30
minutes before putting the key in to start the car. I stood outside the car
and turned the key just in case. But no problems and the airbag light
goes off as normal. I paid £120 for the wheel on ebay which was a good
deal. Most go for around £150-200.

@ TJ, you can't put in a memory stick but you can hook up an ipod with a
Pioneer adaptor. It's a very good stereo though. Much better than the old
Pioneer unit that was in it. Just have to fit a sub in the boot.
EDIT: Look at the pics on page 1 of this thread to see the old wheel.

Excuese the lack of technical know-how, why do you wait 30 mins have often contemplated on changing mine.

To avoid an airbag fault which will keep the light on in the dash. You have to
get it reset by a garage. I've heard 15 minutes is the minimum advised time
to wait. I waited longer just in case.
Keep looking on ebay.co.uk for a one. They come up quite often. Just make
sure you're there to bid at the end. 4 others tried to outbid me in the final
seconds. I've watched at least 10 of these wheels over the last 3 months and
they all sold between £150 and £200 but a few of the sellers wouldn't send
to Ireland, others wanted paypal only (which I don't have) and others wanted
£50 to post to Ireland. I paid £20 for postage on mine by courier.
As I've said I'd really recommend it. Transforms the feel of the steering. It's a
thicker rim with better thumb rests and is much nicer to hold then my old
one.

A little late in congratulating you on your car, but anyway; Very nice car and I hope you have thousands of enjoyable miles/kilometers in it!

I put that steering wheel in my previous E36 (not M3!) and it is a nice upgrade indeed. I had three different wheels in that car; the original three-spoke sports wheel, then an original oem three-spoke wood-rim made by Nardi which I really liked but the rim was rather thin and than the M-Tec with the thumbgrips. Had to have the airbag reset, at the dealers, once but disconnecting the battery seems to work OK. Put the M3 wheel in my current E46; that really is a nice wheel - I really like the thickness of it.

Good luck with the M3, hope to join the club some day...
