Hi all , im new to BMW and have just got a 98 540ise sport Touring. The car is full of toys and need to get a print out of what it has got !. The first thing which seams strange is it has Tv , comms pack computers etc but no sat nav. I would like to know if any one has added another make of nav to ust the fitted screen. The main problem is i have a new pioneer touch screen stereo/nav/dvd but if i remove the TV will i lose the computer readout graphic etc. I am an electronics engineer and have not had any time to check this out as the car will be with me in 10 days time. I must say as i am new to bmw i hope these are as good to drive as they are to look inside and own !. Thanks for your help on any tips. Also will the phone system work with just a sim card ?

As far as i was aware if the car has the screen in the front dashboard then it will have sat nav. This is unless an aftermarket piece of kit was put in. If you check in the boot in the left and right sides you should find the cd changer sat nav and battery behind some fold out pannels. I would imagine though that if there is no disc in the system than the sat nav will not work.

As for your recent purchase, what a great car you will be very pleased and performance is not that far off an M5. The steering is not as good as the 6 cylinder cars as in order to get the V8 lump in a worm and roller system had to be fitted, but if you have come from an e34 you won't even notice. Brakes are awsome and will wind you in emergency situations and handling is great. However they can be quite twitchy in the wet if you turn all the traction bits off.

When I purchased my 735 the phone was missing from the car kit. I have since purhased a 2nd hand Motorolla V50 mobile phone. This works fine with an old sim in it. BUT I have since purchased a spare new sim for it and most of the functions are no longer available from the bmw controls on the steering wheel and OBC.

Hi , thanks for your info. I did see that when you switch the tv to Sat Nav it does come up Sat nav and then nothing. I know it has the full nokia coms phone and i see the cd player in the back so may be the Sat unit is fitted but faulty ? or no disc or missing. The garage phoned today and said i will be able to collect the car on saturday so i will have a look when i get home . Has any one out there got the bmw cd so i can get a print out of what was fitted in the car from New?. I have ordered the cds but must be in the post and i cant wait to check the list out. Thanks again for all your help   The other odd thing was that the rear head rests are not fitted or were they extra but it has the center rear one fitted !. I wondered if they were taken out to fold the seats down at some time and not put back?.

If you give the chassis number to a main dealer they will be able to tell you what extra's and standard equipment came with your car. On head restraints, yes they do come as standard and make sure they are included as getting new ones will be ni on impossible and very exspensive
