E36 323 Advice Required please

   Hi all
I need some advice please
How good is the E36 323
What models were there? e.g 323iS etc ?
What are the common faults 
Was offered one for 9.5K 
Its black 1999 with 64K on the clock
One previous owner
5 speed manual 
Aircon
No leather etc 
Or the other option is an E30 318iS in very good condition with 86K on the clock for 2.6K which is in need so some work 
i.e new tyres
new rear shocks soon
Oil service 
Will be doing above average milage, i.e. 24K per annum
Mostly motorways and maybe the occasional track day
