Does anyone find that the original suspension on an E36 very very soft? When I go real slow over the black and yellow speed bumps found in carparks etc I seem to bottom out, even when I take it really easy!

Might have something to do with your sig name.

Seriously, how old are the shocks and springs?

That actually sounds a bit more like bushes or top mounts than shocks/springs.

Driving the e36 coupe after a while in the e46 I do find that the e36 seems a good deal more compliant but not soft.

Now: BMW 523i SE '00, 318i SE - e91 '07, 325i Coupe '93.

Prev:
e46 328i SE Touring, 330Ci, 318Ci.
e39 523i SE.
e36 325i Coupe *2, 323i SE, 316iSE.
e30 325iSE 2dr, 320i Conv, 320i 2dr, 316i.

My car has some damage to the chassis legs because when I go very slowly over certain cheaply made speed bumps, my car bunny hops and bonks the lowest part of the chassis just behind the front wheels.

Currently I have two knackered lower ball joints and a broken spring, which might well be the cause of the grounding out but is more likely a symptom of the overly harsh bumps.

The X brace under the engine has a few small scuffs too.

Note that mine is a cabby so should(?) have softer suspension.

I only bought the car a few weeks ago. It's a 97 coupe. I'll be honest and tell ya that I know nothing about cars, that's why I try get some info here. I couldn't tell you a 'bush' from 'shock'. what's the worst case scenario (and the likely scenario with my problem)? and how much to get it fixed?
