Or if you fancy tackling it yourself, there is an article in this months edition of the "Car Mechanics" magazine featuring a M40 318 timing belt change. I ain't at home now but I think they allow 3 hours plus you have to replenish the coolant as the system has to be drained down.

Definitely get it done either way, it will cost a lot more than 350euro to put it right should the belt snap!!

€200 tops sounds far more realistic-had been quoted almost €350!!!

Thanks again

Ignore my username...my last car was an iS (fantastic car).

Current car is a standard 318i M40 engine so its belt alright.

300-400 was'nt what id budgeted for but i guess il have to shop around!

thanks for your help.

some of these engines have a timing chain rather than a belt.. which would make it more expensive .. normal belt change would be around 300-400 in my experience.

Hi lads, quick question:

I've just been given a quote from my local mechanic to have the timing belt changed...seems a bit pricey!!

Anyway, what would be the average price to have this done?

Thanks...by the way my car is a 91 E30 318i & has been well maintained!
