Hi there,

Was hoping someone would be able to advise about this problem my friend has been having. He has an n E38 728i se 1999 on a T reg. Its done approx 220k (Not bad as it looks abt 50k) well anyways it recently started smoking when the engine was warm. Was fine on cold starts. He then added some whims stop smoke and it has worked as it doesn’t smoke at all now. But since then it’s been not idling well in park, its almost trying to stall. Its fine when it’s in drive. He changed the Spark plugs but to no avail. Its prob due an inspection 2 service soon. Has anyone come across this???

Cheers….

Aly

Gasket problems?, get a check done for exhaust gases in the coolant.

Cheers,

You think it can be the Gasket?? Oh that sounds expensive...
Its not got any power loss or anything like that. And fuel consumption is the same as well. He still gets 24mpg in town.. Will let him know so he can get it checked. Ta.......

If the smoke is blue he may want to get cold and warm compression tests done as well while he's at it.
