Since there are so many Marks of Bmw, could we have sub-forums in each section ie. for 5 series, E34/E39/E60/E61 sections respectively.
This would help members in locating info for their specific model. 3 Series Forum/5 Series Forum/7 Series Forum is too general these days, especially when new models come out all the time. Too many models under one heading. Also, with these sub-forums, a few more moderators can be added to deal with them. Any thoughts yourselves. Steve |

We used to have this and then the members asked for the current format as there were too many forums in the end.
Do people think the current structure should be 'modified'? |

The other problem with that steve's method is that an engine problem may be realted to both the 3, 5 and 7 series. Could it be less likely answered if there were about 15 forums for these?
Rob's idea may work but its down to users to do it. |

The next question will be - what's an E39, E60 and which one is mine? We're not all anoraks like you |

can the model number be a compulsary part of the technical section? someone has a question but, before the question can be posted the model number has to be filled in.. i.e. Model Number:[E60] (has to be filled in before post can be uploaded) Post Reply: [Question or problem etc..] this may help but don't know if it can be done (but I'm sure K will be able to) |

What about the E36/5 ?
As far as I'm concerned it's up to the poster to add which model it is. Same with engines, how many models use the M42 for instance? Too many forums make the place look cluttered - it's about striking a balance. I think if you want to post a question about a specific model then by all means include it in the title. Any thoughts? |

Someone mentioned about updating the Forum homepage, well, the Ireland
one anyway. How about small pictures of the various models with
relative model number below them, quick link to specific sub-forum.
Or this sound like too much hassle. |

If you look at the Bimmerforums.com site, there are little sub-forum linkies to the M5/5 Series forum.
Like this, with the years too. Sub-Forums: (E28) 1982 - 1988, (E34) 1988 - 1996, (E39) 1996 - 2003, (E60,E61) 2004 - current
What ya think K? |

I can see a problem in this as follows... Say someone has had an E34 for 5 years...knows it inside out... They sell it and buy an E39...so they now only look at the E39 forum and not the E34 forum...meaning that we lose a good technical resource because they now own a different car... BB |

I see your point. But at the moment posts about every model for the last 25 years is in there, does that make sense?

There are pros and cons to wither method.
Pros: Beforehand knowledge of model affected Cons: Adding more forums to an already extensive list Possibly less replies per thread as currently some users stay in one forum only (e.g. ///M users) |

I think it over complicates things. You learn more from the current format, and sharing your own knowledge base from previous cars is easier too. QED I vote it stays the same. Edited by T.J. |

the same could be said for someone going from an e39 to an e38 you could lose their knowledge as well, generally people may go back to subforums of their old cars. but the decisions lies with the powers to be |

E28 Forum. The first thread is, "Anyone here have an E12?". |

Speaking about having a help page with the different models - how about this parts catalogue (similar to RealOEM) but seems to easier to use ... |
