Dave

Vauxhalls suffer from ICV's getting blocked up.

I stripped out and cleaned the ICV on my 3.0i 24V Senator.

What you need is a can of Wynnes Carb and Fuel injector cleaner.  £5 from Halfrauds for a 500ml spay tin, tin is purple and it is really effective. Definately worth doing.

The idle control valve is usually a form of bypass between the air filter and the inlet manifold/throttle body.
The exact location will depend on the engine type but this may help...

Has anyone ever heard of the idle control valve and is it on most makes of cars. I spotted on another forum that they are present up to 97 on the e39 and cleaning them can improve the performance and stop the car being sluggish.

The reason I want to know is that my wifes Zafira is sluggis at llow revs and can then shoot forward for no reason.

TIA

Dave
