A few days ago, we posted the first video showing the BMW PAS, or as the Munich based manufacturer calls it: Progressive Activity Vehicle. (above)

For some of our new readers that might not have seen our previous articles, the PAS is four door sedan but with a hatchback profile. It will be similar to X6 in a way, but with more interior space and a lower ridding guard. It will simply be portrayed as a bigger hatchback that will satisfy the needs of those that need more rear seat room and a big trunk space.

The car will follow the new 7 series steps and will be available in a standard rear wheel drive, but for those of you that go through rough winters, BMW will offer an all-wheel-drive as well.

In the mean time, for the lack of better photos, we will need to satisfy our needs with the following spies.

SPYSHOT: BMW Progressive Activity Sedan

November 5, 2008 at 8:32 pm · Filed under BMW, Cars, Spyshots

BMW PAS

These excellent shots of the upcoming BMW Progressive Activity Sedan (BMW PAS… future Terengganu exco car replacing the new E200Ks if PAS ever regains control of Terengganu?) were shot by reader Zakwan in HohenSchwangau, about a 2 hour drive from Munich where the BMW headquarters is.

These shots reveal not very much of the rear brakelamps, but we are able to see the sleek, compact and upwards-pointing headlamps that probably follow the theme set by the new F01 7-Series. You can expect large kidney grilles with this car as well.

The BMW PAS was originally rumoured to be called the V5, part of a new V-Series which were supposed to consist of *gasp* BMW MPVs. It definitely doesn’t look like an MPV of any sort. It’s more of a fastback version of the 5-Series. Many car manufacturers

offer a third model variant to its large sedans - a fastback or a hatchback in addition to the conventional sedan and estate bodyshapes. The Mazda6 is one of them.

Yes, that’s probably what it is, a version of the BMW 5-Series Touring with a sloping rear roofline designed to compete against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz CLS. It may not be called a 5-Series though… maybe an X4 or something. I really don’t know.

The shot above reveals a dual trapezoidal tailpipe configuration for the exhaust system. Various spyshots of the BMW PAS around the internet has revealed a couple of other tailpipe configurations as well. What we’ve seen so far is a twin-tailpipe exhaust on one side of the car which could be a baseline model or a diesel model, a quad-tailpipe version (two twin tailpipes on each side), and also a dual round tailpipe configuration on either side of the car which could belong to a variant power by the N54 3.0 liter twin turbo petrol engine. These trapezoidal tailpipes likely indicate the 4.4 liter twin turbo V8.

The multi-spoke wheels on this test vehicle also look like one of the larger ones we’ve seen installed on this car so far, which indicates this is probably one of the top of the line variants.

BMW 5-Series PAS to be unveiled before the Geneva Motor Show

BMW sources reveal that the 5-Series patterned Progressive Activity Sedan (PAS) will be unwrapped in a special event on February 11 and 12 although details have been closely guarded at this time. It is commonly expected that the PAS, which is founded on the latest 2010 5-Series, will be introduced after the debut of the redesigned 5-Series.

Considering the timeframe for the PAS showing, however, it would look like BMW will be showing a concept version rather than a production model. Nevertheless, a concept is fundamentally just a thinly-veiled production model. Another likelihood, which will be determined in time, is that BMW is previewing the model to the media as an advance move for its official introduction in March at the Geneva motor show. Initially, there were talks that the PAS will be introduced at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. This could still be plausible if BMW chooses to debut the 5-Seires in Geneva. No matter where or when the latest PAS will be showcased, the important thing is that it will come with the same gasoline-diesel powerplant range as the BMW 5-Series. Also featured in the PAS will be more interior and cargo room compared to the S-Series but slightly lesser in comparison to the Wagon version.
