If it's just for the rear bushings of the front wishbones (x2) done by dealer, it's probably par for the course.

Wishbones with balljoints and bushes is about 800 euros in original parts never mind fitting.

I got my two front wishbones and bushes replaced in Advance tyres for about 450euro a few weeks back. Not OEM but I cant tell the difference to be honest. The front end fells alot tighter.

Actually I don't know is it front or rear. I went to Frank Kean's for oil service and they told me car requires wishbone bushes and the price is 360+VAT

I didn't ask is it for the rear bushings of the front wishbones or for something else.

Anyway  It has to be as You say. I'll check accars to compare

It's the front; it doesn't have wishbone suspension at the back.

They're a common wear-part but it probably makes sense to change the wishbones/balljoints at the same time as described by richiej, above.

You won't get that for 360+vat, though!

Apologies for hijacking the thread, but I am just wondering do the wishbones need to come out of the car to change the suspension ball-joints?

I got quoted apprx. €240 to do suspension ball-joints, this seems a little excessive, so I questioned it and the guy told me the wishbones need to come out, surely not if the right tools are available??

Any feedback at all appreciated!

Cheers

The common way to do these is to buy the wishbone with the inner and outer balljoints attached. The rear bushing, as discussed above is then sold separately.

The original BMW part is wishbone with two balljoints attached.

If it was the price for doing just the bushings, its too much.

I usualy do them for 200+VAT suplyed and fitted.

And to fit wishbone bushings you dont need to take the wishbone out.

So I am assuming from the above posts that for an E46 325 Ci, it is possible to simply remove the suspension ball-joints and replace with new?

The guy who quoted me the €240 told me whan I dropped the car over that the whole wishbone needs changing as they are aluminium and the ball-joints can't be changed out.......being a toolmaker by trade I know that if the guy had a flypress or something similar, then pressing a new ball-joint into aluminium is possible!

@ Narusa...where are you located???

Cheers

E46:
Wishbone must be renewed to renew either inner or outer balljoint. The bushes can be renewed without removing wishbone.

E36:
Balljoints can be renewed separately, as can the bushes.

The bushes are a 100 euro for a set from BMW.
There is a tool to do them in place but they are not very efficient so most
mechanics just remove the wishbone as its not that big a deal.
They are very common on 3,5,7 series

Its only two extra bolts on an E36 so why not remove them, its so much easier to do than to try and wrestle the lollipops off with wishbone still attached... And pressing on new ones is no fun either unless going with Polybushes.

Theres a tool to pull the bush off in place.
You don't need a press to put the bush back on,just some red rubber grease
and it goes on easy.

if it was me id replace the wishbone as you can be sure the other bushes will go soon afterwards plus there will be some fatigue as well

I don't see why you would replace the whole lot,the outer and inner ball
joints are not often replaced on a newer car.
