    Posted: 11-October-2008 at 12:33
I have a fault with my interior light ( drivers side ) which is causing the battery to drain whether it is illuminated or not. It is linked to fuse 27.

Has anybody experienced this problem? Are there any relays anywhere that might need checking?? Or, is it possibly linked with the OBC which is also on fuse 27???

Elp!

An auto electrician went through it and found the drain on that fuse. It's not the SI Board  or the alarm ( which I thought it might be) or radio..... Or boot light..or glove box.......... In the time he had, he found a problem on fuse 27.

I later looked at a fuse diagram and saw that the OBC is on the same fuse. I'll try and disconnect it and see what happens then.........unless you have any better ideas.?????

no, i can only suggest that mate - disconnect and see..

i had a problem with mine doing side light fuses lhs, that turned out to be the wire to the boot broken at the hinge and shorting.

sorry that doesnt help really. if you have a meter you could see what is drawing current

I had same problem, there is a relay that controls the interior lights behind the speaker on the drivers side (LHD) of the car. Remove the kick panel and the speaker, put you r hand through the hole for the speaker and reach downwards and you will feel a rectangular shaped relay about one inch x inch by two inches remove it and un plug it and recheck for your drain.

HTH.

Thanks for that!

I'll do what you suggest although having unplugged the OBC the drain seems to have stopped!

The illumination for the OBC hasn't been working for some time - one of the bulbs is out. Do you know if it's possible whether this could be a cause of the drain or is it more likely to be something more fundamental with the unit??

Have you got a part number for the relay by any chance should I need one???

Edit: Looks like this little beuty

The bulbs on the OBC display would not cause a drain, one of mine was out for quite a time after I had sorted the drain, the bulbs are wired in series so if one dies the whole display dies, they're a cheap fix, bulbs are 89 p each from Maplins or similar, however, they are a bit of a pain and a little fiddly to replace..... ( if your OBC is currently removed it's an ideal time.)

Also, bear in mind that OBC removal will cause your drains to reduce as the OBC has a perm live feed which is no longer loaded by the OBC.

How big was the drain and how big is it with OBC disconnected?

Yes, that is the little...........

Before buying one, IIRC they are not cheap, pull it and reconnect you OBC and recheck the drain and the size of it, should be around 0.03 Amps.

Sorted! It was indeed the interior light control unit. Thanks for the info.
