I saw this on a IS site - don't know whether it affects this side of the pond!

Quote BMW Recalls 2008-09 M3s with Double Clutch Option
November 24, 2008
BMW is recalling about 2,500 M3 vehicles from the 2008-2009 model years with an optional double clutch transmission. The problem involves the double clutch gearbox. In a situation of rapid deceleration, the transmission software may perform a multistage downshift. At low speeds, it is possible that the engine could stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will reprogram the engine and transmission electronic control unit free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in November.

I read an article on the double clutch fitted to the M3's, very interesting technically.

Wish I had done Mechanical Engineering instead of Civil Engineering, I could be designing oily bits for cars or trucks or JCB's hmm mibbie not JCB given the climate.

Great find K.  That explains it way better than the magazine did and it shows in a sort of schematic diagram form the uninterrupted power flow thru the clutch.  Very clever.

Although wot does that do, make the gear change 200 nano seconds quicker?  Would us ordinary punters notice that?
