Hybrid variants of the Bmw 7-Series and X6 coming in 2009Hybrid variants of the BMW 7-Series and the BMW X6 will be started by BMW which will be scheduled to be on sale by the end of this year. This report is confirmed by Ian Robertson, BMW Sales and Marketing Director, commenting that these two variants will be using varying hybrid systems. The 7-series will be utilizing a mild hybrid that permits the engine to shut down when braking or coasting while the accessories remain functional taking advantage of the electric motor. On the other hand, the X6 would be coupled with a full hybrid system allowing it to run on pure electric or utilize a combination of its internal combustion engine and a bigger electric motor to propel the vehicle. These two concept variants are currently on display at the NAIAS. The 7-Series concept is patterned after the 2009 model year and is equipped with a 4.4-liter bi-turbo V8 joined to a 20 hp electric motor that produces a remarkable 155 lb-ft of torque alone. The V8 which produces 400 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque will reduce fuel consumption by 15%. Lithium-ion battery located at the boot of the car powers the electric motors while regenerative brakes channel energy back to the batteries. Meanwhile, the X6, which is equipped with the same 4.4-liter V8, comes with much less details, however, the German carmaker claims that it would generate 20% more fuel economy in contrast to identical V8 cars.Considering that these two cars are still in their concept stages, changes to mechanics and detailing may be made prior to their showroom appearances. It is certain, however, that we will see these versions in dealerships very soon. http://www.4wheelsnews.com/hybrid-variants-of-the-bmw-7-seri es-and-x6-coming-in-2009/ |
