Hi everyone. Im new here. My name is Rob and I just bagged myself an E36 Coupe on Ebay......

Bought on 28th December to replace my 1994 Celica which I paid £300 for 2 years ago and needs too much work on it. The Beemer will be a well cared for daily driver.

Paid £1050 for a 1995 318is Coupe E36 from ebay:

Plus points:

93000 miles
MadeiraViolet
Electric sunroof
Complete toolkit, triangle, service history booklets and decent amount of documentation
1 tiny parking ding on entire body!
Colour coded bumpers / skirts
Mtech spoiler
Foglights (unchipped)
Original BMW mats in reasonable condition

Problems:

Car has been heavily smoked in - dirty interior
Drivers seat broken on rhs back - heavily worn material
Missing seatbelt caps
Missing switch blank
Bulb for light switch gone
Map lights not working
Boot light not working
Brake pad warning light on
Steering wheel leather ripped
2 litres short of oil minimum mark on dipstick!!!
Low coolant
Battery bag in boot not in engine bay
Door cards loose / misaligned
Tires 1/2 inflated!
Rear numberplate bent
Seatbelt buckle position button missing
Oil service overdue
Airfilter filthy
Condensation in lights
Reverse lights not working
Mtech spoiler brake light not working
Handbrake ratchet broken
Glovebox release mechanism partly broken
Pants Sony stereo
White parts of bonnet badge enamel chipped away
Drivers door mirror not working
Window metal trim edging paint lifted / rusting
Front shocks a bit worn
RUBBISH Gerutti tyres - seriously dangerous!

Since the 28th December, I have fixed all of the above problems except for:

Front shocks a bit worn
Drivers door mirror not working
Reverse lights not working
Seatbelt buckle position button missing
Map lights not working

The tyres it came with had loads of tread but were chinese and £25 each and in my opinion were dangerous, so i picked up some decent wheels with much better tyres.

Pics before the new wheels:

Check out the complete lack of grip pattern for sideways movement!

I changed the whole interior as it was shocking. Stank of smoke and was really grimy. Here is an example of the mess it was in - Drivers seat (note the shiny fabric - it should be matt if clean but was all greasy)

And this weekend saw the £150 M3 replicas (with ok tires) go on. Replicas not for the purists, but for an unknown car it is all I can justify....

New seats all round:

Im over the moon with the way it looks now. Its my daily driver but I have definitely fallen in love with the car now.

Here is my weekend toy: Magazine featured 300bhp MR2 Turbo

Stunning E36 mate! What a difference!!!
In regards to the Reverse lights, I had the same problem and it turned out to be the switch on the gear box, was only a few quid and easy to change! But might be worth while checking the bulbs and the fuse as well...

Nice alloys as well.... Looks much better!!! Get some clear corners now... :)

E46 328ci now sold :(

Definite improvement over how you got it.
Notice you have the 4 door seats fitted now - no trouble getting in the back I guess then?
Aye, as above - get some clear indicators and some silver bulbs (no fired eggs then)
nice alloys btw.

Has it been clocked by the look of the original seats or was the last owner living in it lol.

Welcome to the forum

Great turn around - looks like there was a decent car hiding under all that!

Nice job.

Re the reversing lights, I can back up alym786's experience. A cheap part that is easy to swap so well worth a try.

Big improvement! Welcome.

Welcome to the forum Rob.
Steady progress ongoing!

As Rhys pointed out, the front seats seem to be for a saloon..no latch on seats for rear seat access.
As above, a clear light pack would certainly set the car off with Philips silvervision or osram clear amber bulbs. Probably needs sun visors and headlining replaced due to smoke staining too or major cleaning.
