Next BMW 1 Series could spawn Super Sport versionYou can't please everybody. Customers complain that the current BMW 1 Series is too small, while others say it's too heavy. Some want it to offer more space, while others want it to be sportier. You can't please everybody, but BMW is evidently going to try. Although the next version of the compact 1 Series is expected, as most new models are, to grow in size, BMW is also reportedly planning a lightweight two-door sport model. Referred to in the interim as the 1 Series Super Sport (to avoid confusion with the original mid-engine M1 exotic), the hot 1 would be a spiritual successor to the '60s-era 2002 (pictured above) and the original '80s-era M3. Motivation could be provided by a turbo- or supercharged four-cylinder driving as much as 300 horsepower through a dual-clutch gearbox, coupled with all the electronic bells and whistles of modern day BMWs for a 0-60 sprint in five seconds flat. With those kind of stats, we hope this is one of those rumors that turns out to be true. [Source: AutoBild via Motor Authority] |

Rumour has it now that, BMW may have
another ace up their sleeve, and the same label will be used for a 3
Series as well, but would it be the called BMW 335i Supersport?
Let me give you a bit of perspective. A while back I visited Classic BMW, the largest BMW dealership in the At that time the 1-Series had only been out for a short time and and BMW was just starting to release the performance part lines for the 1-Series and the 3-Series. Eric was one of the first in the nation to receive the parts for these cars, so it came to no surprise he would put together his own version of what he thought BMW should make in the future. Eric is no stranger to performance cars, fielding his fair share of race cars on the Grand Am circuit, and being an official Dinan performance dealer for the area. So to say he know what he is doing may be an understatement. Little did I know at the time that I was looking at the spitting image of BMW’s upcoming 1 Series Supersport and possibly a yet to be announce 3 Series Supersport as well. Since Eric was prepping fro a visit from BMW North American brass the very next day while I was there, it comes as no surprise that his creations probably were the impetus for these latest models appealing to the enthusiast who isn’t quite ready to upgrade to the M just yet. Are there horsepower increase to match the obvious handling and braking improvements? Only time will tell. View the pics here...[source] |
