Hi there Got an M635 engine to drop into a donor car. Went to take the plugs out today so we could turn the engine over by hand to see if it turns as its been sitting for a number of years - and had a prob. Cant get the usual size of plug socket to fit. Does anyone know what size the plug is on these engines - its currently looking at us trying to make a slimline socket to fit. Any help would be great Linda

The Halfords own brand 'T-Handle Spark Plug Wrench' (blue plastic handle) size 12mm works fine in the E30 M3 engine so it should fit the M635 plugs too. 4.99 quid

lookede in my owner's manual. listed plug is Champion A6G. Champion chart shows this as 12mm thread, 3/4" reach, 11/16" or 18mm hex. does that help?

BMW ETK shows Bosch X5DC's, same as catalysed S14's, so a plug socket that fits an S14 should fit a S38.

just checked my toolroll (if you'll pardon the expression). The spanner that came with the car is amodified 18mm box spanner, the steel is slightly thinner than a normal 18mm box but you might gwet away witha standard box set and maybe a bit of filing on the corners
