Seems to be a few of these about at the moment!

You will need a diagnostic check done to determine exactly what is wrong.  Garages charge about 1 hours labour which I paid £40 for recently.  A new wheel sensor if that is what is at fault will cost about £60 and can be fitted yourself within 30 mins.  There is no need to take the car back to the garage for resetting after doing the sensor change.  The system will reliase that a new part is installed and will reset itself.

The wheel sensors are located on the inside of the wheel hub.

The actual unit is pricey!  I think I've heard of one unit failure but that chap stripped it out and sent it off to get it repaired.

My first E60 suffered from a faulty DSC (E60 eqiv of ASC) unit and it was fixed under warranty, part alone was over £1,000!

Wheel sensor is most likely, really common fault on E39s.  I replaced both my front ones myself about a year appart from each other.

Yep, defo a wheel sensor, rarely heard of the unit giving probs, 99/100 its one of the wheel sensors - do a visual first for broken cable etc - then do a diagnostic check to pinpoint the wheel

Thanks lads,

The lights were on for a few days then off then on. now there off for the last week so Il wait till they come on again before I look into changing the sensors. It must be a sensor problem. The brakes and car is running fine.

Thanks again
