Interesting follow on to the thread on Value Servicing from BMW. I've acquired a 00 328i Touring without MFSW. Looking on fleabay yields a few suitable secondhand wheels for a retrofit for £140-150-ish + shipping. Out of curiosity this morning I rang the new local dealer in Limerick and one in Norn Iron for prices of retrofit kit new. Local dealer price - €303 + VAT. NI dealer - stg£208 + VAT - Approx €230. €75-ish of a difference, or +30% on the NI price, for the same part where there is no extra shipping involved to get from the same (BMW UK) parts centre, both have to cross the pond, and where VAT isn't skewing the picture - no wonder the dealers here are folding at a rate of knots. Sympathy evaporating for them! Take the VAT rate difference between here and NI and the difference becomes €100. As it happens I can take a route to Donegal for the BH w/e that adds nothing to my miles and brings me right past the door of the dealer. |
