new to forum as just bought 4 year old 330d touring before christmas, first bmw and what a revelation but - i've gone and filled it up with morrisons b30 biodiesel which is not suitable apparently - always wondered how people managed to put the wrong fuel in but now i know - muppet! tried using vacuum pump to drain tank but only got about a litre out so can anyone help. Is there a straight forward way to drain tank or is it a job for a professional? mind you with the weather the way it is I'm tempted to pay someone just so I don't have to venture out.

by the way the low fuel warning had just come on and only drove a few hundred yards back home, is the biodiesel likely to have contaminated the fuel filter or worse?

Any advice most welcome, cheers

Welcome to board

If i were you i would first call BMW and ask there advice

Maybe get a local garage or AA ect to come and drain it out

You may need to change fuel filter but i would doubt a little B30 would effect it that much reading other reviews

Good luck

What's so wrong with Bio diesel?

I have heard of manufacturers recommending that their vehicles are not run on the stuff so why make the stuff in the first place?

pete330, thanks for welcome. spoke to bmw as soon as realised what done and although very helpful said that recommend no more than 7% bio and since b30 is 30% needs to be drained. Got local specialist who i'll give a call. Interested what you say about other reviews, will try doing a search on board to see what has been said.

Andrew, i agree, why sell it if not suitabl for modern engines or at very least have prominent warnings displayed.

All you really need is a drain of the tank and a flush of the fuel system.  It's not really a huge problem for any garage to sort.  I wouldn't have thought that it would cost huge amounts of £££s to sort.

Keep us posted

Andrew

all sorted now, but involved removing rear seat to access both sides of tank via sender and other access point, apparently couldn't vacuum pump via fuel pipe due to pump in the tank. grateful to local garage for sorting it out, took at bit of head scratching and consultation with friendly contact in bmw dealership. great to have car back although wife's mini has been much better in the snow than mine is.
