Not the usual suspension lowering chat but what temperature is your Beamer operating in?

I got minus 13 deg C this morning on the outskirts of Houston in Renfrewshire near Glasgow Airport.

It's the coldest I've ever seen displayed on a cars temp gauge but I know I'm not in the coldest part of the country.

By the way everything was still working!

We don't get cold temperatures here like those you get in
Scotland (-2 or -3 at worst) but the car was reading -8.5
here this morning. And its to get colder!

Ok, here goes, minus 9 here last night! in the south!  I have to say one sad thing though, amongst the many dumped and abandoned cars at the sides of the roads, of the ones I recognised, a large majority of them were the big cars with all the technology, sadly quite a few beemers. A 59 plate 5 series, an e46 M3 and I have spotted a few more as well but also an audi A8 and a couple of Mercs too. I'd say there is probably as many of the big expensive models stranded as the smaller fords, nissans, vauxhalls etc which is strange because the smaller cheaper car hugely out number the bigger ones but a larger percentage of the big guns getting stuck!?

What happened to all that ASC, ESP, ABS etc...... have the mighty fallen to the power of mother nature?

Anyone else got any tales of woe in the snow?

Mike

I did think you'd been a little quiet since giving up your pride and joy. Any eyes on a replacement yet?

On the note of freezing cars. My wife and I decided it was time we cleared our driveway and cars for the first time since the heavy snowfall on Tuesday. After spending 30 minutes digging the snow from in front of my car and all the windows, we switched the engine on to try and use the heater on the windows to clear the frozen ice. The thing is, the door lock was stiff and although it opened, it sprang closed again once we'd got the engine running with keys obviously in the car! I had fitted a new barrell to the drivers door in the summer and we thought we may have had a spare somewhere but couldn't remember where. After a little frantic looking we breathed a sigh of relief as we found a brand new spare key "PHEW"!

Then I spent 10 minutes trying to wheel spin my car back up the drive so we could park hers. My arms, chest and thighs are killing me from all that shovelling. More to come tomorrow as I have to do a few miles but I'll be in the company van followed by SWMBO's taxi!

All good fun!

Mike

With both my car and her 206, the locks keep freezing which
won't let me actually close the doors! I have to pour warm
water over them just to be able to close the door!

Ah, yes, but I had a Cat1 alarm/immobiliser fitted to "my" E30 M3, so just had to press the key-fob to un-lock the doors , and with a bit of warm water / de-icer around the doorframe she would always open - and lock again.

Stupid frameless coupes!

-9.5° in enfield, only had trouble this morning pulling away from my house, ice formed over the gravel in fron of my house so the traction light kept flicking on even though I wasn't giving much power to wheels.
