Ive just picked up a car Ive always fancied, a 1983 635Csi which is not in bad nick at all. I would class it as needing mild restoration.

Mechanically its not bad, although I suspect it needs a new water pump, has been squealing on occasion and then last night the temp gauge shot up to the red rather quickly. Is it a hard job on the M30 engine?

Ive had a few BMW's over the years, E30 325 and a E34 530 but this 6 is just sooo nice.

So is this the right section to chat to other 6 series owners then?

The coupe section along with the 6 series technical bit will get through to us.

Congratulations on your new purchase, it's good to here another 6 owner is out there.

You need to get the overheating issue resolved ASAP as you don't want to change the head gasket as usually it will do the head at the same time. A water pump change is a good starting point, but i woud also look at your radiator and viscous fan. A radiator that has been gummed up with rad weld will not cool the car that effectivly and you are probable better off getting a new rad. The viscous fan coupling has wax in the bearing and overheating can resulut in this melting meaning that the fan will not turn resulting in overheating. Another area can make the car look like it is overheating is that the plastic screws on the back of the SI board can brake resulting in flicking guages. For this you will need to get the SI board refurbished, and at the same time you can get the batteries changed which will get your service lights working again.

If you have any questions post away, and if you need any parts i have a 1983 six wrotting in the garage so send me a private message.
