Hope someone can help.Got a 2005 e60 525d M Sport with quite a basic spec and am looking to add Pro Sat Nav to the car.At the minute I only have the standard fit single slot CD player.I have managed to get a Pro CCC head unit (cd & DVD drives) from fleabay which is guaranteed working.Naturally I need the wider screen, but was told that this would have to have been from the same car?? Can anyone confirm this?? Also been told I would need a new i-drive controller due to the added functionality that the sat nav needs??

I fully understand all the programming that will need done and thats fine but I'm sure that as long as the screen has the same plug input then that should be okay.Any advice too about the idrive controller??Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers all.John.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

You have a mammoth task ahead of you.  You would most likely need to get all the relevant bits including the items from flebay coded to your specific vehicle so that they will work and communicate with each other.  That is why the comment of "would have to have been from the same car" is applicable as it would have been coded to that chassis.

Yes you would need a serious update to your iDrive system, I'm not sure if anyone other than BMW could takle it.  I imagine that would not be cheap either.  Have you spoken to a BMW dealer?  The physical upturned pie dish iDrive controller/dial/knob/thingie would not need changing.

The Pro Sat Nav from BMW is something like £1,600 optional extra from new.  My parents E90 has this option fitted and it is actually quite limited in terms of address/postcode programming/accessing.

A Tomtom is less than £150 and can do more.....but it's not built in....
