Hi Guys, am new to this so take that into account please. Can I fit 205/40ZR17 tyres to my 97 325 tds in place of the 215/45/ZR17s fitted now. Thanks in advance and stay lucky!

You will be altering the rolling radii of the wheels which may upset the electrical items that take a signal from the wheel sensors. For example traction control, ABS, speedo, cruise and if it is an auto the autobox may throw its toys out the pram. If that was an approved BMW rim tyre size combo from new then you should have no issues. |

This may not be so bad. The chances are that the original tyre size on the TDS was 205/60/15. Assuming this is so, then the change in rolling radius from the original size is only around 5mm, or about 0.27%.

as long as you change ALL of the tyres it won't upset the electronics. But it may upset your insurance for running the "wrong" tyre.
205/40/17 is a very flat tyre, expect a loss in driving comfort and stay away from pot holes. My wifes E46 compact runs on 205/50/17 from factory Edited by UweM3 |
