what a senario'

It may start every time for 10 days or more, then if it does'nt start it's turn-over time. don't touch the throttle when you start the car, I was told when I bought the car. well, what can I say. Some times it fired up instantly, other times I would have to turn it over, again, and again, etc, etc.

If it didn't start first time, it was back to again, and again, and etc etc. When it eventually started, it smelt as if it was floaded, and would splutter into life, reluctantly.

However, I also had a problem were the engine was hunting on its own, reving up to 1500 rpm and down to 1000 rpm, all on its own. A new contol unit (cpu) under the bonnet, sorted that one out(at some expense), but not the original problem of, you've got it, poor starting.

Any takers?. As well as this problem, it did tick-over at 800 rpm but now its down to 600 rpm. Does anyone know how to adjust the idling speed, or does it have to go to the boys that know.

Idle speed is controlled by the Idle speed contol module and is not adjustable.

Poor starting......

Start with the cheapest and work outwards.  Plugs, HT leads, Dizz cap and arm, Battery.  Even the coil if it has one.  Have you got a top notch battery of the correct spec.?  Like most things on a BMW, the cheap alternatives often don't do the job.
