Yet again, BMW make a mockery of the marque and damage to the pride of the existing owners with more pointless products. Still, I bet there will be no end of overpaid chavs queuing to buy this abomination, just like the ugly little 1M.
Very soon, owning a BMW will be as prestigious as owning a Ford Focus and I'm sure this will soon start happening. (follow the facebook links to video etc)

Your dead right Cambell although I am pretty sure that my next "business" car will be a 3 series once it is time for the "staropramin special" to get punted.

I disagree I think this looks very close to a current adaptation of the iconic E30 M3.
And I actually quite like it. |

I saw this the other week and I'm with Gary I quite like it especially as it looks fab as a race car!
I also saw another video of that car in Aberdeen which was taken as it happened. Basically served him right for the abuse he was putting that car through! Just lucky no one was hurt!! |

Wake up, its a 1 series with a body kit just like the new M4 is just a 3 series for plebs that want a "new" badge. There should be a distinct difference between all the models. The current range just look like the designers have hit the "zoom image" button on photoshop. There's no real differences.
A complete lack of imagination.

Disagree once more.
I'm sure there are people who thought the E30 M3 was just a 3 series with a bodykit. When in reality underneath it was a completely different animal all together. The M235i is more than just a 1 series with a bodykit. The bulging arches allude to a wider track and lower centre of gravity hinting at a racier stance and handling. Also given BMW have created Race series for it would suggest that this is going to be serious bit of kit. And again I like the look of it and the thought if a small nibble racer from BMW Motorsport |

OK. it'll be quick. No doubt about that but looking at the car, and the dish of the wheels, they look like they'll fit the body kit fairly well. Take the kit off and fit the correct offset wheels and "hey presto" a 1 series !!
No doubt there'll be a 220d and a 420d available shortly. (influenced by Rover ?)

To be fair most if not all car company's are doing it! Cramming in new models that all pretty much look the same apart from the rear badge... Can understand why they're doing it as they'll reach a bigger audience and the car companies will save money as most the cars share the same chassi platform! Most cars look the same on the road nowadays anyway... BMW are just following the masses!

Agreed, there's a lot of companies doing it, Porsche, Audi........ Isn't it better to say "Oh, there's a 3 series" than "Oh, look, some kind of BMW"..
As for the 911.....I just don't get that at all.

The M235i looks o.k. to me. It has a petrol engine up front and rear wheel drive at the back. Still puts a big tick in two boxes for me in a car.
If you want exclusivity these days, drive a Ford Mondeo or a 545i

I'm going to stick a foot in both camps here.
I agree with Cambell that the 2 & 4 series are pointless niche filling and there's no doubt it dilutes the brand overall.... However....... No matter whether you call it a 1 series, a 2 series, a 12 series, a 14,756 series or a Granny Smiths apples series, that is a beautiful car. |

BMW are doing their latest usual thing - make a car them create a "M" or 'racing' hype version to make loads of money

Thats how they stay in business.
the days of making one off racing versions for the roads are over. It's the volume market that makes money for manufactures nowadays not the niche markets. I do agree with cambell slightly in that I wish BMW wouldn't follow Audi in naming the same car with different number of doors as different models. I wish they had just named the 3 series a 3 series saloon and coupe, as well as the 1 series. But I do like the look of the new 2 series |
