    Posted: 19-January-2004 at 09:56

Just wanted to get some feedback from any owners of an X5. I have one on order which is due 1st October this year but wanted to know from real owners what experiences they have had with the X5.

Thanks in advance

Dad ran an X5 3.0d Auto. Cracking car. Held its value well. Was a good all round on road performer. As with many of these beasties it never made it off-road so I don't know about that aspect...

What spec you getting?

Fantastic car.

Drives brilliantly.  Holds its value like nothing else.  Just a little on the wide side but soon adjust to that.  I understand that the '04 model is a real step up from the last one in terms of engine/dynamics.  Quite a feat.

FWIW, you must have the 3.0d sport (8/10 orders are for this car)  Black/Light beige or black/black will see you hold on to most of your cash when it comes time to sell.  Silver also quite popular.  Needs auto gearbox and the tv/sat nav as well to make it desirable.

Only fly in the ointment is insurance.  The cars are now being targetted by theives who are apparently breaking into houses to get the keys.  Insurance companies are considering making tracker mandatory, and the premiums are also going up considerably although still fairly reasonable.

Rgds.

Mike.

This would be the one Jeremy Clarkson referred to as a drug dealer's car!

Hi,

Having recently ordered an X5 3.0 d Sport myself (March 05 del), I found that I cannot get an insurance quote without a Tracker fitted, so I guess the insurers are bothered about the numbers going walkies!!

Perhaps mine will have to go in the garage after all.  SWMBO wants to put her car in there and the freezer is in the way for a beastie the size of the X5.

I feel a bit of negotiation being required here!!

Rick

With the number of 'X' class BM's about to increase in 2005 to include an X7, is it worth having an 'X' series forum now?

If it is then based on those we saw in CA, it will have to be painted in bright yellow.

Would be interested in an X register as I get my 3.0 SE X3 before the end of the month (at Thorne at the moment), looking forwards to that massive moon roof.

I know, you should see a H2 in bright yellow. They seem to be all the rage over there, we thought they were the new compact school buses. and boy were we wrong.

Why don't you set it up! Contact Jeff Heywood (details in the Club Mag).

kdevitt said before that the new BMWs are designed for big fat Americans. Surely you could get two of them in the X7.

I like the comment about '347 M worthy horses'. Judging by it's size it will weigh around 4 tonnes so it will have a power to weight ratio similar to that of a 1.1 ford fiesta biggrinbounce2

20 inch wheels! I wonder if you can get them in chrome. That way it will go down well with gangsters and pimps! roflmao
