I am looking at gettin a set of multi spoke alloys for my 7, but I'm not sure what size to get. Would love to put 20's on, but would they be too big? Also does anyone know what tyre size I would have to use to mach up correctly with my car for 18, 19 and 20 inch wheels? Cheers in advance propus |

20" will fit but you need special suspension to fit it. I have 20" alpinas on mine, and the front struts have a cut out to allow the tyres to fit. 275 wide back and 240 front. Tyres are very thin profile on the back, and the ride is a bit harsh, but boy - do they grip the road like limpets - can throw it around any bend as fast as I like with no problems on a dry day.
The front ones do tend to catch on my plastic under tray at full lock, but that is because it got damaged when I hit a foot deep pool in the middle of the night at around 65 mph. BMW still have some of these wheel/suspension sets around at the £2500 mark. Rumour has it that they got stuck with a load when they forgot to tell Alpina that they were changing the model. Had to buy the lot to keep the peace.Usual price was around £5.5K the set. Cannot tell whether its true or not, but it is a good tale what? |

A would be worried about ruining the ride if you were to put 20's. 18' or 19's would be fine.

I've got an E38 with AC Schnitzer 20" alloys fitted by the previous owner. They are fitted with 255 front at the 285 rear. I don't know if the suspension is modified but it seems reasonaibly stiff but still a lot more comfortable than our Elise :) The tyre does occasionally rub the pastic wheel arch lining on full lock with the suspension compressed. It does grip very well and suprisingly nimble for such a big car.

I am so jealous... :-) I wanted to fit those 20's but just couldn't get my head around the cost. And it is a lovely tale... |
